Foreign Minister Rassoul receives US Congressional Delegation
Foreign Minister Dr. Zalmai Rassoul received a visiting US Congressional delegation, headed by Mr. Glenn Nye, (D-VA) of the House Armed Services Committee.
The two sides discussed the situation in Afghanistan and the region; the combat against terrorism; the recent London Conference on Afghanistan and Afghanistan-US bilateral cooperation.
Foreign Minister Rassoul highlighted the importance of the Afghanistan-US strategic partnership for achieving security and stability in Afghanistan. He also conveyed the gratitude of the Afghan government for US’ contribution to Afghanistan’s stabilization efforts.
The two sides also reviewed the outcome of the international London conference on Afghanistan, and highlighted increased cooperation between Afghanistan and the international community for implementation of target goals in the areas of security, social and development, regional cooperation and reconciliation.
Foreign Minister Rassoul underscored Afghanization of the security response in the war against terrorism, while stressing continued international focus for enhancing the quality and quantity of Afghan security forces. He also reiterated Afghanistan’s concern on the issue of civilian casualties and stressed, in that regard, additional measures by international forces to prevent harm to civilian lives and property.
