Statement of Mr. Hekmat Khalil Karzai Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan at the Emergency Meeting of the council of Foreign Ministers in the Holy City of Mukkah Al Mukarama

بسم الله الرحمن الرحین

Excellency, Mr. Chairman,

Excellency Acting Secretary General,

Excellency Foreign Ministers,

Distinguished delegates, Ladies and Gentlemen,

السلام علیکم و رحمت الله و برکاته

{و اذ جعلنا البیت مثابة للناس آمنا....}

البقرة: 125

Almighty Allah says: And {mention} when we made the House a place of return for the people and {a place of} security/peace,,,, {Surreah Al-Baqarah verse number 125}

I am always honored and humbled to be in Makkah, our most important religious and spiritual capital, where Prophet Mohammad peace and blessing be upon him, was sent as a blessing to all humanity with the universal message of peace.

Please allow me to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation’s Secretariat for convening this important meeting and the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting it and extending warm hospitality.

Excellency, the situation in the Islamic world continues to cause not only serious concerns and apprehension but also sufferings amongst our Ummah.

The emerging of different violent and terrorist groups in the name of Islam have been endangering our peace and security and has also affected our relations with the rest of the world.

The recent missile assault toward the holy site of Al Makkah Al Mokarramah is not acceptable to any of us at all, since Al Makkah Mokarramah and Al Madina Al Monawwarah are the most sacred sites of Islam, and Afghanistan condemns it in the strongest terms.

I firmly believe that it is our collective obligation to resolve the crisis engulfing the region, through peaceful means to enable our Muslim nations, to live in peace and dignity, side by side with other nations of the world.

Excellences;

The situation in Yemen is a source of great concern for all of us, as our Muslim brothers have been suffering since the start of this tragic conflict.

Afghanistan continues to call for the cessation of violence and supporting a peaceful resolution of the conflict, through genuine and meaningful dialogue, engaging all parties involved in the current protracted conflict.

Ladies and gentlemen;

I would like to take this opportunity to recognize His Excellency Ayad Madani at this time   the former Secretary General of OIC, for his sincere efforts and constructive contribution for the cause of the Muslim Ummah and his outstanding achievements during his tenure with the OIC.

I would like to appreciate his initiative to convene an international conference of the Ulema in support of the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan and highly hope that his initiative will continue, so that we will be able to determine a timeframe for this important conference to take place soon.

Let me Mr. Chairman to extend my government support to His Excellency, Dr. Yousef Ahmad Al Othaimen’s nomination as the new SG of OIC, and wish him all the best for his endeavor to serve the Muslim Ummah. I look forward to the convening of the conference of Muslim Ulema for Afghanistan in the very near future in Makka Al Mokarramah.

In conclusion, I would like to state that the peace and security are prerequisites for a dignified and honorable environment which must be provided for every human being. It’s our responsibility to provide such an environment for our Muslim nations, and attaining this objectives needs our collective and long-standing efforts, joint action and a collective solidarity. The OIC, as our common platform and mechanism, can play a constructive role to achieve this end.

Thank you for attention your
