First Political Consultation Meeting between Foreign Ministries of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan

Tashkent- The first political consultation meeting was held between Foreign Ministries of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. This meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hekmat Khalil Karzai and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Fazilov Gayrat Ganievich Yesterday.

In this meeting, extension of friendly and bilateral relations and cooperation, especially in economic, cultural, trade, and transit spheres and the role of Uzbekistan in construction of railways and roads in Afghanistan were discussed. They also assessed common opportunities and challenges and underlined the necessity of close cooperation between the two countries.
The Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister said, “Afghanistan wants Uzbekistan to become one of its major economic and business partners.”
Subsequently, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister expressed happiness over holding the meeting and said, “Afghanistan is Uzbekistan’s friend and neighbor, and we wish peace and economic prosperity in Afghanistan.” He further added that security and development of regional countries are linked with the peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Before holding political consultations, Mr. Karzai met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan H.E. Kamilov Abdul-Aziz Khafizovich and conveyed the Afghan President’s and Foreign Minister’s good wishes and presented an official invitation letter for a trip to Kabul. Furthermore, Mr. Karzai discussed bilateral relations and cooperation, regional important issues, opportunities, and challenges and emphasized the necessity of regional cooperation and integration for peace and stability.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan H.E. Kamilov Abdul-Aziz Khafizovich also underlined the importance of extending bilateral relations and cooperation based on good neighborly, historical, cultural, religious, and lingual commonalities and mutual respect to the national independence and sovereignty of each other.  For fulfilling the intention of the leaders of both countries in extending bilateral relations and cooperation, H.E Kamilov Abdul-Aziz Khafizovich emphasized a comprehensive cooperation plan.
In the series of his meetings with Uzbek officials, Mr. Karzai also met with Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments, and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ganiev Elyor Madjidovich. In the meeting, both sides discussed the agreements reached between inter-governmental commissions and emphasized the establishment of a mechanism for the implementation of such agreements.

In the near future, a high ranking delegation chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan will visit Kabul, and during the visit they will conclude bilateral cooperation agreements between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

During the visit, the Deputy Foreign Minister also met with a number of Afghans living in Uzbekistan and discussed the progress made in extending the relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. He also listened to the problems of Afghans in Uzbekistan and promised to take measures within the limits of Afghan laws.

In addition, Mr. Karzai met with a number of intellectuals of Uzbekistan’s Science Academy and talked with them regarding the relations and cooperation of both countries and the opportunities to extend these relations. He also discussed regional issues and the peace process in Afghanistan.
