Afghan Foreign Ministry Reports on Implementation of UNSCR 1325
KABUL – Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the second progress report on the implementation of National Action Plan on UN Security Council Resolution 1325; Women, Peace and Security, today afternoon.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and the country’s First Lady were the key speakers at this event. The speakers also included the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Deputy Minister of Women’s Affairs, as well as the Director General of the Human Rights and Women’s International Affairs of the Foreign Ministry.
The participants at the event included members of the diplomatic corp, representatives of partner organizations and officials of the government.
H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivering the opening remarks, noted that the event marked significant achievement of the goals set under the said resolution, and reiterated the government’s commitment to securing women’s fundamental rights. He stressed the importance of women’s participation in leading the way ahead; securing which, he said were a moral and religious obligation for the government.
H.E. Rula Ghani expressing contentment over the achievement of 37 out of the 39 deliverables noted that it was imperative to implement provisions of the resolution at their best to achieve the desired ends. The First Lady called on the international partners for ‘clarity as to the seriousness of commitment’ to the improvement of conditions for Afghan women.
The 1st report on the implementation of the National Action Plan was launched in 2016.
