Reconstruction and Development of Afghanistan

The Second Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan was held in New Delhi on 18-19th November 2006.
The conference reviewed the implementation of the December 2005 Kabul Declaration on Regional Economic Cooperation. Participants explored ways to strengthen cooperation in the areas of electricity, transport, trade, investment and agriculture, while promoting capacity building and focusing on regional projects.

ECO Geology Meeting Due in Tehran

TEHRAN. May 30. KAZINFORM. Senior officials from the ECO member states are to attend a two-day meeting in Tehran on May 30 to discuss several geological issues.

Hadi Mir Mohammad Meygouni, a senior official with Iran's Geology and Mine Exploration Organization told IRNA on Tuesday that the participants were scheduled to study joint geological projects.

The meeting will focus on the measures to implement two projects, one to compile an International Mineral Deposits (metallogenic) map of ECO members and the other to develop an earth science database for these countries, he explained.

Deputies from the Ministry of Industries and Mines as well as the ECO Secretary General will be attending the opening ceremony.

Established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey, the Economic Cooperation rganization (ECO) is aimed at promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation among the member states. It expanded to include seven new members in 1992, namely Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
