Biography of Mr. Meerwais Nab Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs

Born in Kabul in 1978, Meerwais Nab has worked as a career diplomat for two decades before being appointed as the Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs in 2020. Previously, he served as the Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Cooperation.

In 1999, Mr. Nab started his diplomatic career as the Assistant Military Attaché at the Afghanistan’s Embassy in Dushanbe. Subsequently, he became in charge for Deputy Military Attaché of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Beijing, First Secretary of Afghanistan’s Embassy in Beijing, Deputy Director General for First Political Directorate and Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington. Later, he was appointed as the Advisor on the International Affairs of the National Security Council of Afghanistan. In the course of his career, between 2014-2019, Mr. Nab served as the Afghanistan’s ambassador to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.


Mr Nab has a master’s degree in International Law. He has been remained consistently engaged in various research fields on international diplomacy, strategic, and security studies and followed his academic studies in India, China, Germany (MC) and United States.
