Acting Foreign Minister Meets with Visiting Australian Delegates to Kabul
KABUL – Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Idrees Zaman met with visiting Australian delegates led by Ian Biggs, Assistant Secretary for South and West Asian Division of Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, accompanied by Australian Ambassador to Kabul, today.
At the outset H.E. Biggs thanked the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for facilitating the release of Australian professor, Mr. Timothy Weeks from the Taliban captivity. And hoped that the development can contribute to facilitation of direct talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
The two sides discussed issues of mutual interest and focused on peace process. During the meeting Foreign Minister briefed Australian side about the Afghan government’s 7-point peace plan and the Ministerial Conference of Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process, due to be held next month.
Mr. Biggs expressed his government’s continued support and commitment toward peace efforts in Afghanistan.
