World Bank Special Envoy Calls On Acting Foreign Minister
KABUL – Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Idrees Zaman met with the World Bank Special Envoy on Fragility, Security and Development Mr. Albert Gerard Koenders; this afternoon.
The visiting World Bank delegate called on the Acting Minister to discuss the institution’s engagements in Afghanistan.
Mr. Koenders informed Minister Zaman that he is visiting Afghanistan to make sure the World Bank’s engagements are aligned with the country’s needs, taking into account the government’s plans in terms of development and security.
The Foreign Minister, welcoming the World Bank delegate, briefed him on the Afghan government’s peace efforts; including on the 7 Point Peace Plan, as well as the envisioned orientation of the foreign ministry.
Minister Zaman informed Mr. Koenders of the government’s planned engagements with the regional countries on the peace dividends under the said 7 Point Peace Plan, as well as the economic oriented shift of the foreign ministry to strengthen trade and economic connectivity with the region and beyond.
The two sides also talked about the relevant upcoming events, including the intra Afghan peace talks, and the post peace reintegration process.
Mr. Koenders assured Minister Zaman of the World Bank’s continued engagement in the country and support of the development programs towards a peaceful and self-reliant Afghanistan.
