Acting Minister Zaman Chairs Joint Steering Committee Session on Reporting to International Human Rights Conventions


KABUL – Acting Foreign Minister H.E. Idrees Zaman in this meeting, emphasized the fulfillment of Afghanistan’s obligations on the basis of international human rights conventions, not least, the presentation of Afghanistan’s reports. He also appreciated the active role and cooperation of the implementing agencies in preparing Afghanistan’s reports.

Minister Zaman said the objective of the steering committee session was to assess and confirm the followings three points:

1. Afghanistan’s report on CEDAW list of issues;

2. Afghanistan’s report on ICCPR; and

3. Reviewing the agenda of the dialogue with the European Union on the rule of law, migration, and human rights.

The members of the committee approved the said reports. The Directorate General of Human Rights and Women’s International Affairs of MoFA sends the said documents to the Second Vice President’s Office for final approval.

The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has joined 7 main human rights conventions and 4 optional protocols so far, to which it is obliged to present reports on human rights to the observing committees of the treaties.
