KABUL – The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Haneef Atmar met the Ambassador of People’s Republic of China in Kabul, Mr. Wang Yu, today afternoon.
Ambassador Yu expressed hope that during Minister Atmar's tenure and as a result of joint efforts, the two countries would witness the expansion and strengthening of bilateral relations.
In response, Minister Atmar expressed his gratitude for Ambassador Yu's views and emphasized on the importance of relations between the two countries, the will to expand the scope of the relations between the two countries in various fields, including the fight against the COVID-19. Minister Atmar thanked Ambassador Yu for China providing medical supplies to Afghanistan.
They also discussed the possibility of increasing the scope of economic and security cooperation.
The two sides considered the efforts to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan as a shared goal of both the countries. Ambassador Yu assured of his country's continued and comprehensive support towards the peace process in Afghanistan.
While thanking China for supporting the Afghan peace process, Minister Atmar acknowledged that peace in Afghanistan can only be established and sustained within the framework of the Islamic Republic.
The meeting ended with the two parties having a detailed discussion on the release of Taliban prisoners, the beginning of peace talks as well as securing a humanitarian ceasefire.
