Video Conference Call between Afghan and Indian Ministers of Foreign Affairs
Kabul – Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Haneef Atmar and Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar, had a video conference call today. Both the sides discussed issues of mutual interests including those pertaining to economic and security cooperation and the Afghan Peace Process.
At the outset, Minister Jaishankar congratulated Minister Atmar on assuming office as the Foreign Minister and assured him of his government’s preparedness for expansion and strengthening bilateral relations between the two friendly nations. He informed Minister Atmar of his government’s support for the Afghan peace process, economic cooperation and strengthening the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
Minister Atmar thanked his counterpart for his kind views and the support that the Indian government has provided to Afghanistan during the past two decades. He emphasized on the importance of bilateral cooperation on economic and security aspects and the ongoing peace efforts. He, more specifically, underlined India’s support towards humanitarian ceasefire, immediate beginning of the intra Afghan talks and exchange of prisoners between the Taliban and Afghan government.
Both sides concluded the meeting hoping for peace and the end of war in Afghanistan.
