Telephone Conversation between the Acting Foreign Minister and the British Ambassador to Afghanistan
KABUL – Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Haneef Atmar held a telephone conversation with the British Ambassador to Afghanistan Ms. Alison Blake CMG.
At the onset, both sides deliberated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Afghanistan and the UK, especially the resulting human casualties, and exchanged views on sharing their experiences in combating the pandemic.
Minister Atmar expressed appreciation for the UK’s continued engagement in Afghanistan and its support for the Afghan peace process. Both sides exchanged views on the latest developments with regard to the peace process and discussed the mechanism for monitoring Reduction in Violence; developing regional and international cooperation; garnering the support of Afghanistan’s international partners in relation to the peace process; establishment of a humanitarian ceasefire; strengthening regional consensus on peace; immediate start of intra-Afghan negotiations; and the release of prisoners by both the Government of Afghanistan and the Taliban.
The British Ambassador reiterated the British governments support for the Afghan peace process and elaborated on her governments vision on the intra-Afghan dialogue and consolidation of regional consensus.
