Foreign Minister Discusses Peace Process with the US Chargé d’Affaires
KABUL – Acting Foreign Minister, Mohammad Haneef Atmar, held a video conference call with the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Kabul, Ambassador Ross Wilson.
Their discussions focused on the Afghan peace process, regional cooperation, and the importance of strengthening international consensus on the peace process.
Both parties exchanged views on the mutual efforts of the Afghan Government and the US regarding the release of prisoners, a reduction in the level of violence, and the immediate start of talks between the Government of Afghanistan and the Taliban.
Ambassador Wilson highlighted the important outcomes from the recent international and regional meetings on Strengthening Consensus for Peace. In addition, both sides exchanged views on the importance of regional connectivity, expansion of trade and strengthening multilateral cooperation especially between Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Central Asian states.
In closing, both sides reiterated their commitment towards reaching lasting peace in Afghanistan.
