Acting Foreign Minister Meets the EU Head of Delegation to Afghanistan
KABUL – Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Haneef Atmar met with the European Union’s Head of Delegation to Afghanistan, Ambassador Pierre Mayaudon.
At the outset, both sides highlighted the important outcomes of the Forth Senior Officials Meeting SOM and comprehensive commitment between the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and international community on the importance of good governance and the fight against corruption.
During the meeting, the EU Ambassador conveyed his appreciation for the declaration of a ceasefire between the Government of Afghanistan and the Taliban for the duration of Eid. He also called for an extension to the ceasefire and the immediate start of talks between the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban. Moreover, both sides deliberated on issues including expansion of trade and transit, investment and economic cooperation.
In closing, Minister Atmar thanked the Ambassador for the EU’s continued cooperation and commitment to Afghanistan, while Ambassador Mayaudon reassured the Minister that the EU remains committed to Afghanistan for the foreseeable future.
