KABUL – Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Mohammad Haneef Atmar met with Mr. Ian Collard, Charge d'Affaires of the United Kingdom, in Kabul.
Minister Atmar appreciated the UK Government's support to the Afghan peace talks and UK's continued cooperation and assistance with the Afghan Government and people over the past 19 years.
Discussing the progress in Afghanistan Peace Negotiations, Mr. Atmar stressed on removing current hurdles to peace talks, forming a credible mechanism to reduce and monitor violence and establish a humanitarian ceasefire. He further elaborated on the importance of preserving the hard-won gains of the last 19 years and expanding regional and global consensus to secure a successful outcome for the peace talks.
Mr. Collard also maintained that establishing a comprehensive ceasefire, reducing violence, and preserving the gains of the past two decades, including women and citizen rights, are essential elements to be considered in peace negotiations.
In closing, Mr. Colard expressed hope for a lasting peace in Afghanistan and reassured Minister Atmar of the UK government's commitment to a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan.
