Deputy Foreign Minister Meets Turkish Ambassador to Kabul

KABUL – Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mr. Idrees Zaman met with Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Oğuzhan Ertuğrul.

Ambassador Ertuğrul congratulated Afghanistan on the successful holding of the Consultative Loya Jirga on Peace and stated that realizing peace in Afghanistan required regional cooperation. He mentioned of the Heart of Asia -Istanbul Process as a valuable framework for consultations and cooperation with regards to the peace process in Afghanistan.

Mr. Zaman also described the role of the regional countries and regional cooperation in the peace process and talks as significant.

During the meeting, the Turkish Ambassador hinted at the opening of the new Turkish Consulate in Hirat in the near future and said, “In the coming year, the Turkish Government is ready to build 13 new schools in various provinces of Afghanistan”.

The two sides also discussed expansion of the bilateral relations, the Istanbul Process, peace talks and inter-Afghan negotiations, and the third round of political consultations between the two countries.
