Australian Delegates Call on Deputy Foreign Minister
KABUL – Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Mr. Idrees Zaman met in his office Ambassador of Australia Ms. Nicola Gordon-Smith accompanied by the visiting Assistant Secretary for South and West Asia Mr. James Hall, this morning.
Deputy Minister Zaman and the Australian delegates discussed a wide range of issues including in bilateral ties and Australia’s engagements with Afghanistan, as well as regional cooperation and the upcoming important events.
Mr. Hall informed Deputy Minister Zaman that Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade in cooperation with the Afghan Embassy in Canberra will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He added that they will convene a conference on the two country’s historical ties, with the view to engage the people of Australia with Afghans.
Welcoming the Idea, the Deputy Foreign Minister thanked Australia for its engagements with Afghanistan over the past years.
The two sides discussed in details and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, the ongoing peace process, and the upcoming presidential elections.
Both sides emphasized the importance of sincere regional cooperation for a peaceful region.
Deputy Minister Zaman and Ambassador Gordon-Smith underscored the need for further coordinated work for enhanced cooperation.
