Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets US Department of State Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia
Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani met with the United States Department of State Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia, Ms. Alice Wells.
H.E. Rabbani stated that the ceasefire during the Eid days was a good start and the Afghan Government remained committed to the country’s peace efforts, however, the Taliban, unfortunately, restarted the war and killings after the three-day ceasefire. The Afghan Foreign Minister deemed peace as a necessity for the Afghan people and at the same time emphasized the Afghan security forces’ combat against the terrorists.
Ms. Wells appreciated H.E. Rabbani’s efforts as an influential Afghan Government cabinet member towards holding a transparent and inclusive election and counting the contribution of women in the elections as significant. Ms.. Wells deemed counter corruption, narcotics, and terrorism in Afghanistan as significant and stressed on the expanded cooperation between Afghanistan and the United States. Ms. Wells hinting at the NATO meeting due to be held soon announced the special and firm message of NATO in the upcoming meeting for Afghanistan.
Both sides talked on bilateral and regional cooperation, Afghanistan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity, Parliamentary and Presidential elections, supporting Afghan security forces, and economic development of the country.
