Handover of Chairmanship 'Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention' to Norway
GENEVA - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani handed over the chairmanship of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention to the Foreign Minister of Norway, at the sidelines of the ongoing Geneva Conference.
Afghanistan maintained the chairmanship of the said Convention, informally known as the Ottawa Treaty, during 2018. During this period Afghanistan attempted to increase the number of signatories/member states to the treaty and to share Afghanistan's sufferings in this regard with the international community. Afghanistan also sought further cooperation of the International Community for addressing the needs of the victims of anti-personnel mines in the country.
Hinting at Afghanistan's efforts during Afghanistan's chairmanship in 2018, the Afghan Foreign Minister wished his Norwegian counterpart success in the disposal of his country's duties and commitments in the coming year as the chair of the said convention.
