JAKARTA – Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia H.E. Retno Mersudi.
Foreign Minister Rabbani thanked the Indonesian Government for the invitation and warm welcome and talked on the implementation of concluded agreements between the two countries and discussed the modality of peace talks in Doha.
Foreign Minister Mersudi expressed Indonesia’s readiness to host direct talks between the Afghan Government and the Taliban representatives.
H.E. Rabbani appreciated the Indonesian Government for providing hundred scholarships for Afghanistan and called for Indonesia’s investment in a key area such as mining.
The two sides talked on bilateral cooperation, peace process, and regional cooperation and shared the discussed matters with the reporters.
VIENNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Mr. Idrees Zaman met with the European Union Deputy Secretary General for Economic and Global Issues Mr. Christian Leffler. at the sideline of the 62nd Session of Commission on Narcotic Drugs
Deputy Minister Zaman, beside thanking the EU for its assistance with Afghanistan stated with regards to peace that he was in close contact the EU Ambassador in Kabul and he cooperates in facilitating the holding of the 3rd Kabul Process meeting.
Deputy Minister Zaman assured the EU delegation of the 30% contribution of women in the peace process and consultative peace Jirga and obtained positive response from the EU side with regards to the reintegration of the refugees, technical assistance and monitoring the transparency of the Presidential Election.
VIENNA - Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Mr. Idrees Zaman met with the President of the International Narcotics Control Board Mr. Viroj Somyai at the 62nd Session of Commission on Narcotics Drugs.
Deputy Minister Zaman thanked the INCB for its cooperation with Afghanistan and shed light on the integration of the Ministry of Counter Narcotics with the Ministry of Interior Affairs for further coordination and effectiveness in countering narcotics.
“Afghanistan is ready for peace with the Taliban but the negotiations should be direct with the leadership and ownership of Afghanistan. Peace should not damage the 18 years of achievements.” Said Deputy Minister Zaman in response to Mr.Somyai’s query regarding peace process and post-war Afghanistan.
Mr. Somyai asked the Afghan Government to send a competent delegation to attend the INCB meeting in May 2019 to present Afghanistan’s specific requirements on the basis of which the INCB can call on the international community and the member countries for further cooperation and assistance with Afghanistan.
VIENNA - Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Mr. Idrees Zaman represented Afghanistan in the 62nd Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna, Austria.
The Session started with the video message of UN Secretary General Mr. Antonio Gotris.
Later on, the UNODC Executive Director Mr. Yury Vidotov, International Narcotics Control Board President Dr. Viroj Somyai, Minister of the Interior of Austria Mr. Herbert Kickl, Russian Foreign Minister, Mr. Sergey Lavrof, and Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mr. Idrees Zaman delivered their speeches.
Deputy Minister Zaman shed light on the achievements and challenges of Afghanistan with regards to counter narcotic drugs. Mr. Zaman, talking on directs ties between narcotics and terrorism stated that the role of countries and regional and international organizations in this regard is very important and called for further coordination between the countries and organizations to overcome the existing narcotic drugs related challenges in the world.
KABUL – Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani met with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Kabul Mr. Liu Jinsong.
The Chinese Ambassador, expressing respect to the internal affairs of Afghanistan and his country’s comprehensive support to the Afghan Owned and Afghan Led Peace Process, announced China’s official support for the upcoming Consultative Peace Loya Jirga.
The two sides talked on Afghanistan’s full membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, bilateral and regional ties, Peace Talks in Doha, and regional cooperation.
