UN Secretary General Special Representative Calls On Afghan Foreign Minister

KABUL – Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani met Special Representative of the UN Secretary General Mr. Tadamichi Yamamoto.

The two sides discussed and exchanged views on a range of issues, including the past and upcoming important events.

Ambassador Yamamoto congratulated Foreign Minister Rabbani on the successful convening of Geneva Conference on Afghanistan last month, noting that the policies were well formulated.  He expressed hope for successful implementation of the policies.

Foreign Minister Rabbani and Ambassador Yamamoto discussed a range of issues related to the peace process as well as the past parliamentary and the upcoming presidential elections.

Both underscored the importance of the upcoming elections.    

Deputy Foreign Minister Meets Ambassador of Tajikistan

KABUL – Deputy Foreign Minister Ms. Adela Raz met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to Kabul Mr. Sharafuddin Imam today.

Ms. Raz, deeming the regional cooperation as a significant factor for stability and economic growth in the region, added: “The Heart of Asia Ministerial Conference next year is a good opportunity to renew commitments for further economic cooperation between the regional countries.”

Mr. Sharafuddin Imam, deeming the regional cooperation as significant, assured the Deputy Foreign Minister of Tajikistan’s preparations for holding the next HoA Ministerial Conference.

The two sides also discussed and exchanged views on bilateral ties and expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy Foreign Minister Meets Iranian Ambassador

KABUL – Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Nasir Ahmad Andisha met with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kabul Mr. Mohammad Reza Bahrami today.

The two sides discussed and exchanged views on bilateral ties, border commissioners’ visit of the two countries, finalizing the establishment of cultural centers in Afghanistan and Iran, issues related to the real estate in the cities of Afghanistan and Iran belonging to the two countries, and border related bilateral issues.

Dr. Andisha assured the Iranian side of his office’s coordination with the relevant entities in solving the issues related to Afghanistan’s real estate in Iran as well as the relocation of the wall of the Iranian Consulate in Herat.

Deputy Foreign Minister Meets Egyptian Ambassador

KABUL – Deputy Foreign Minister Adela Raz met with the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Kabul Mr. Hany Saleh Mustafa Ahmad.

During this meeting, the Ambassador of Egypt talked about his country’s support for the Peace Process and cooperation with the Afghan Government in this regard.

On the other hand, Ms. Adela Raz called the role of Egypt and the Ulema of Al-Azhar University effective in the Peace Process and promoting of Islamic moderation and asked for an active participation of Alazhar University at the OIC Conference. Ms. Raz also asked for an increase of scholarships of this university for Afghan female students.

Both sides exchanged views on mutual relationships and holding of the 90th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

NATO and US Forces Commander Calls on Afghan Foreign Minister

KABUL – Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani met in his office the Commander of NATO Resolute Support Mission and US Forces, General Austin Scott Miller, this afternoon.

General Miller called on Foreign Minister Rabbani days after the meeting of the NATO Resolute Support Mission Contributing Nations held on December 5th in Brussels.

The two sides discussed and exchanged views on range of issues.

The NATO and US Forces Commander recalled with optimism the rejuvenated spirit of support at the Brussels meeting.

Foreign Minister Rabbani and General Miller discussed Afghanistan - US bilateral ties and exchanged views on the peace process, and the upcoming elections, as well as the NATO and US support for the Afghan security forces.
