Foreign Minister Meets Chinese Ambassador to Kabul

KABUL - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani met with Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Afghanistan Mr. Liu Jinsong.

The Foreign Minister congratulated Ambassador Jinsong on the occasion of the Chinese new year that commences from tomorrow. He also expressed his gratitude to the People's Republic of China for its support of the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned Peace Process. The Chinese Ambassador also noted that a secure Afghanistan was in the interest of all the countries in the region.
The two sides discussed peace, regional cooperation and bilateral settings.

 

Deputy Foreign Minister Inaugurates ‘Afghanistan Historical Studies Center’ in London

LONDON – Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Mr. Idrees Zaman inaugurated ‘Afghanistan Historical Studies Center’ in London on the occasion of Afghanistan’s centenary of independence this year.

In this gathering, Deputy Minister Zaman deemed the opening of such centers of high significance, and presented comprehensive information to the audience about Afghanistan’s current political situation, Afghan-led and Afghan-owned Peace Process and upcoming Presidential Elections.

 

MoFA Holds First RECCA Ambassadors Meeting, Inaugurates RECCA Research and Evaluation Center

KABUL – The first coordination meeting of RECCA Ambassadors in 2019 and inauguration of RECCA Research and Evaluation Center was held with the participation of Foreign Minister H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani, Government Officials, and Foreign Ambassadors to Kabul in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Rabbani, besides thanking the regional countries for their support, counted the regional cooperation as significant and deemed Afghanistan as a regional hub. Regional cooperation results in stability and economic growth, added Minister Rabbani.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Cooperation Ms. Adela Raz also recalled the achievements under the regional cooperation framework in 2018 in various sectors, namely TAPI in Energy and Chabahar and Lapis Lazuli Route in Transportation Sectors.

It is worth mentioning that the Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA) was established in 2005 engaged in sectors such as energy, transportation, trade and transit facilitation, connectivity, expansion of cooperation among the member countries’ private sector, and dispatching laborers. The Center’s establishment was proposed during the RECCA-VII Ministerial Meeting in November 2017 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and thereby approved. The center aims to develop the research capacity, expand the project-based cooperation, assist in policy development, and grow investments in the regional level.

The 8th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan Ministerial Meeting (RECCA-VIII) is due to be held in Tashkent hosted by Uzbekistan in the second half of 2019.

 

Deputy Foreign Minister Meets EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan

LONDON – Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Mr. Idrees Zaman met with European Union’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan Mr. Ronald Kobian on the sidelines of the International Contact Group’s Meeting.

In this meeting, extensive discussions were held around the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned Peace Process, upcoming Presidential Elections as well as European Union and Afghanistan’s role in the implementation of the Union’s five-point suggestions for the post-peace period.

ICG Meeting held in London, co-chaired by Afghanistan & Germany

LONDON – Co-chaired by I.R. of Afghanistan and Germany, The International Contact Group’s Meeting was held on Thursday, January 31st 2019 in Lancaster Hall of London with participation of representatives of over fifty states and international organizations.

In this meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Mr. Idrees Zaman noted with gratitude and appreciation, the support and cooperation of the international community provided to Afghanistan in various spheres over the last seventeen years. He provided information on the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned Peace Process, the upcoming third meeting of the Kabul Process, upcoming Presidential elections, and emphasized the importance of protection of Afghanistan’s seventeen years achievements in the context of the peace talks.

At the end, the international community reiterated its commitment to support Afghanistan and help fight terrorism in the region.

Foreign Minister Meets Alice G. Wells

KABUL – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani met with Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia Ms. Alice G. Wells.

Recalling the recent efforts of the United States of America for bringing peace to Afghanistan, Ms. Wells deemed regional consensus important for peace in Afghanistan. She also pointed out the importance of Afghanistan’s upcoming Presidential Elections and stressed transparent and reliable elections.

Mr. Rabbani emphasized on Afghan-led and Afghan owned comprehensive peace talks in which everyone can see themselves.

Both sides discussed bilateral and regional cooperation and counter-terrorism issues.

Deputy Foreign Minister Meets German Minister of State at Federal Foreign Office

BERLIN – Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Mr. Idrees Zaman met with the Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany Mr. Niels Annen.

Both sides discussed and exchanged views on strengthening bilateral ties, establishing political consultations between foreign ministries of the two countries, the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process, upcoming Presidential elections and partial withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.

Foreign Minister Meets Indonesian Vice-President’s Special Envoy

KABUL – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani met with Special Envoy of Vice President of Indonesia for Afghanistan, Mr. Hamid Awaludin.

Mr. Awaludin reaffirmed his country’s commitments for bringing peace to Afghanistan and expressed his country’s readiness to host the peace talks.

Mr. Rabbani also appreciated the cooperation and goodwill of the friendly country of Indonesia with respect to Afghanistan.

Both sides also discussed the expansion of bilateral relations, upcoming Presidential Elections and regional cooperation.

 

Deputy Foreign Minister Meets Iranian Ambassador to Kabul

KABUL – Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Nasir Ahmad Andisha met with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kabul Mr. Mohammad Reza Bahrami today.

The two sides discussed and exchanged views on the establishment and convening of the third meeting of the joint economic and transit committee between the two countries and finalization of the MoU on construction of the Second Silk Bridge to further expand trade and transit between Afghanistan and Iran.

Both sides also emphasized the completion of construction work of Iran’s Consulate General in Herat.

Danish Ambassador To Kabul Calls On Deputy Foreign Minister

KABUL – Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Mr. Idrees Zaman met in his office with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Kabul Mr. Nicolaj A. Hejberg Petersen, this morning.

The meeting focused on bilateral ties, issues of mutual interest, the status of progress in the Peace Process, as well as the upcoming 3rd meeting of Kabul Process.

Ambassador Petersen assured Deputy Minister Zaman of Copenhagen’s ‘high interest’ in Afghanistan’s peace. He briefed the Deputy Foreign Minister of his country’s financial commitment to Afghanistan for the last year.

The Deputy Foreign Minister appreciated the country’s assistance, congratulating the Danish Ambassador on the chairmanship of Nordic Plus.

Deputy Minister Zaman briefed Ambassador Petersen on the status of progress in the peace process; including the regional activities to this end, the Kabul Process 3rd meeting as well as the agenda and other related details of the event.

The two sides exchanged views on a range of issues including the new areas of bilateral cooperation.

The Danish Ambassador reiterated his country’s support of an Afghan led and Afghan owned peace process.
