KABUL – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan met with NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan Ambassador Nicholas Kay.
Foreign Minister Rabbani expressed his appreciation of NATO's support to Afghanistan.
The two sides discussed the peace process, regional cooperation with a view to realizing sustainable peace, security, the recent Presidential Elections and ensuring transparency in the process of vote count.
KABUL – The Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mr. Sibghatullah Ahmadi addressed the media in a press conference and responded to their questions.
Mr. Ahmadi informed the audience of the initiation of efforts by some countries in the region and the world for resumption of Afghanistan Peace Talks and the follow up on the death of two Afghan citizens as a result of a fire incident in Greece.
The Foreign Ministry Spokesman provided a brief on the transfer of 48 Afghan detainees from Tajikistan to Afghanistan that took place at the request of Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani to President Imam Ali Rahman.
Mr. Ahmadi said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had sent a list of participants to-be at the UN General Assembly, to the President’s Office, but no response has so far reached the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.” He added, “The UN General Assembly had started on September 24, and the Afghan delegation arrived in New York when almost all other delegates from other countries had left New York, and unfortunately Afghanistan experienced its weakest representation at the UN this year.”
NEW YORK -- The second Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) of the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process (HoA-IP) was held on the sidelines of UNGA in New York. The meeting was co-chaired by Idrees Zaman, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and his Turkish counterpart Mr. Sedat Önal.
The event was attended by the Senior Officials of the participating countries, supporting countries and supporting regional and international organizations.
The meeting focused on the Peace Process in Afghanistan, the related recent developments, and the importance of it for the region and beyond; as well as the presidential elections.
The meeting announced that the HoA-IP Ministerial Conference will be held on
December 9th this year, in the Republic of Turkey.
Participation of Idrees Zaman on behalf of Foreign Minister H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani at SAARC Foreign Ministers Meeting
NEW YORK – Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mr. Idrees Zaman participated at SAARC Foreign Ministers Meeting and delivered a speech on behalf of the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani. Restating the commitment of Afghanistan to the objectives of SAARC, Mr. Zaman asked for an increased endeavor for handling the new challenges in the region.
KABUL – Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Mr. Idrees Zaman hosted a reception in honour of five newly appointed Ambassadors.
A luncheon reception was organized in honour of Mr. Najibullah Alikhel Ambassador to Ashgabat, Mr. Hassan Suroosh Ambassador to Ottawa, Ms. Helena Malikyar Ambassador to Rome, Mr. Moheb Rahman Spinghar Ambassador to Kuala Lumpur, and Mr. Shahzad Aryobee to Prague.
Preceding the reception, Deputy Foreign Minister Zaman, addressing the participants highlighted the importance of the bilateral ties between Afghanistan and the five host countries. He wished the Ambassadors designate the best of success in their tenures.
