Afghanistan Welcomes the Security Council Support to the Peace Negotiations Between the Afghan Government and the Taliban Movement
KABUL – The United Nations Security Council’s support on the start of the peace talks between the Afghan Government and the Taliban movement, as a reflection of the global community’s backing of a peaceful end to the conflict in Afghanistan, is highly encouraging to the Afghan Government.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan assures the members of the UN Security Council that the Afghan Government is fully committed to a sustainable peace, achieved through a comprehensive and inclusive Afghan-led, Afghan-owned peace process, a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire leading to an inclusive end state.
The Government of Afghanistan appreciates the instrumental role that the United Nation’s Security Council has, over the years, played to end conflict in Afghanistan. We urge for the continuation of this support, both from the UNSC and its members, and the wider family of nations. We join the Security Council, and our international partners, in calling on the Taliban Movement to demonstrate good will and create confidence towards the talks by reducing violence and adhering to a humanitarian ceasefire.
As the peace talks progress, Afghanistan hopes for the continuation of the United Nation’s Security Council’s assistance in ensuring the implementation and monitoring of the subsequent peace deal, as well as, joining rest of our nation-state and non-government partners, in ensuring post conflict reconstruction and development in the country.
