Message of condolences and sympathy regarding loss of lives in India

KABUL – We are saddened to learn that more than 100 Indian citizens have lost their lives and dozens more have been injured or missing due to monsoon floods in Maharashtra, India.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, while sharing the grief of the families of the victims with the government and the people of the Republic of India, wishes swift and full recovery to all those injured.

Deputy and Acting Foreign Minister Meets Joint Secretary, PAI Division, MEA-India

KABUL – Deputy and Acting Foreign Minister Mirwais Nab met with Head of the Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran (PAI) Devision of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India Mr. JP Singh, to discuss the latest developments in the Afghan peace process, the new chapter of cooperation between Afghanistan and the international community, as well as further strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Expressing solidarity of the people and government of Afghanistan with India in its fight against Covid, Mr. Nab appreciated India 's comprehensive cooperation and efforts to ensure lasting peace in Afghanistan. Mr. Nab also spoke about the latest developments in the Afghan peace process and the beginning of a new chapter in security, political and development cooperation between Afghanistan and the international community and stressed the importance of continuation of India's cooperation along with the international community's support to peace and prosperity in Afghanistan.

Mr. Singh highlighted the purpose of his visit to Kabul and his meetings with the Afghan officials. The Indian delegation, while emphasizing the importance of peace and prosperity in Afghanistan for the region, assured Mr. Nab of India’s  continued cooperation and support to Afghanistan.

Both sides discussed the latest developments in the Afghan peace talks, the implementation of trade, transport and regional connectivity projects in trilateral framework, and stressed the need for the commencement of working groups within the framework of the Afghanistan-India Strategic Partnership

Condolence Message of MoFA on the passing of Indian Consul General in Mazar-e-Sharif

KABUL – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of IRoA is deeply saddened by the passing of the Consul General of the Republic of India Mr. Vinesh Kalra, in Mazar-e-Sharif. As a hard-working and committed diplomat, the late Mr. Kalra has made valuable efforts to strengthen and consolidate friendly relations between Afghanistan and India.

 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan considers the death of Mr. Vinesh Kalra a great loss for the diplomatic apparatus of the Republic of India and offers its deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, friends, and the government of the Republic of India.

Foreign Minister Meets Indian National Security Adviser

NEW DELHI - Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar met with Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in New Delhi. The two sides discussed the latest developments in the Afghan peace process and political, economic, and security cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, Mr. Atmar discussed the peace plan of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for the success of Afghanistan peace negotiations. He said the plan would pave the way for a lasting peace based on the will of the Afghan people and strengthen Afghanistan's role as a bridge for connectivity and cooperation between regional countries and the international community.

The Foreign Minister added that the Islamic Republic was the only structure that could maintain equal participation of citizens for internal peace and cohesion and prevent the return of terrorist groups to Afghanistan needed for regional balance and stability.

Regarding the existence of terrorist groups and networks in the region, Mr. Atmar noted that the severance of ties between the Taliban and terrorist outfits was one of the group's commitments and a basic condition for the success of peace talks that can allow the return of the Taliban to political and civil life.

During the meeting, India's National Security Adviser stressed the need for continued strategic cooperation between India and Afghanistan and expressed his country's full support for the peace process, including the consolidation of regional and global consensus. Mr. Doval added that the unity among Afghans and consensus at regional and international levels were essential factors for achieving sustainable peace.

Foreign Minister Meets Former Indian Ambassadors to Kabul

NEW DELHI – The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Haneef Atmar met with a number of former Indian ambassadors to Kabul to discuss the peace process and strengthening people-to-people ties between India and Afghanistan.

During the meeting, Mr. Atmar spoke about the outcomes of Extended Troika Peace Talks in Moscow and commended the growing regional and international efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan.

Highlighting India's critical role in regional peace-building efforts and engagements, the Foreign Minister stressed that sustainable peace in Afghanistan could be achieved only through a political settlement emanating from the will of Afghans and broadly supported by regional countries and the international community.

Mr. Atmar also emphasized that preserving the last twenty years' achievements, especially pluralism, civil and political rights, and democratic structures, including elections, were the essential prerequisites for achieving a nationally accepted settlement leading to sustainable peace in Afghanistan.

Confirming Mr. Atmar's remarks, the former Indian ambassadors to Kabul noted that India, as one of the great supporters of Afghanistan's reconstruction and prosperity, has consistently emphasized preserving democratic values within the framework of a republic system in Afghanistan.

India Supports Peace Process and Achievements of Afghan people

NEW DELHI – Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar, who is on an official visit to India, met Monday evening with his Indian counterpart, Mr. S. Jaishankar to discuss the expansion of bilateral relations, the strengthening of regional and international consensus on the Afghan peace talks, economic cooperation, and regional connectivity.

During the meeting, Mr. Atmar presented good wishes and messages of his excellency the Afghan President to the leadership of the friendly country of India, thanking and appreciating India’s approximately $ 3 billion in economic and development assistance to Afghanistan over the past two decades.

Speaking about India's recent commitments and cooperation, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the construction of the Shatoot Dam, the delivery of 500,000 doses of Corona Vaccine, and the sending of 75,000 tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan, the Indian Minister of External Affairs said that India, as a friend and partner of Afghanistan, would continue to support the reconstruction and developmental projects for the welfare and prosperity of Afghanistan people.

The two sides also discussed regional connectivity projects, including the development of railways from Central Asia to South Asia via Afghanistan, the expansion of the Chabahar port, and enhancing trade between the two countries, considering these projects important for strengthening economic cooperation and regional stability.

They agreed to form specialized working groups in various fields to strengthen economic and development cooperation and to follow up on the planned projects at technical levels.

In connection with the peace process, the two sides reviewed the Troika Peace Meeting in Moscow and assessed the final declaration of the meeting as positive for strengthening and advancing the peace process. India stated its readiness to participate in regional conferences on peace and development in Afghanistan, including the Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process in Tajikistan and Peace Talks in Turkey, and stressed that New Delhi strongly supported the peace process and the achievements of the Afghan people over the last two decades.

Mr. Atmar emphasized India's role in the Afghan peace process and called for its enhanced role in strengthening regional and international consensus for the success of peace talks. The Indian Minister of External Affairs expressed readiness to help strengthen the regional and international consensus for peace in Afghanistan, saying that national consensus and unity within Afghanistan would further strengthen and contribute to the regional and international consensus.

Foreign Minister left for New Delhi

KABUL - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Haneef Atmar heading a high-ranking government delegation, left Kabul for New Delhi this morning, the 22nd of March, 2021.

The purpose of Mr. Atmar and his accompanying delegation's visit to India is to discuss bilateral relations, strengthen regional and international consensus on the Afghan peace process, and enhance cooperation in security, economic, political and cultural areas.

During his three-day visit to New Delhi, Mr. Atmar is scheduled to meet with Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar Minister of External Affairs of India, and a number of high-ranking Indian government officials, including the country's National Security Adviser, Ajit Doval, to discuss and exchange views on a range of issues of common interest between the two countries.

During his visit to Delhi, the Foreign Minister will also meet former ambassadors of India to Afghanistan, students, businessmen, Afghan-Hindu representatives and a number of Afghan refugees living in India.

Deputy Foreign Minister Meets Indian Ambassador to Kabul

KABUL – Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Mirwais Nab, met with Ambassador of India to Kabul, Mr. Rudrendra Tando, at the Storay Palace of the MoFA.

Referring to the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries in various fields, both sides placed emphasis on strengthening bilateral cooperation and the importance of regional consensus in support of the peace process. They also talked about preparations for the Ninth Ministerial Conference of the Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process, to be jointly hosted by Afghanistan and Tajikistan in the near future.

Stressing the significance of the Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process, the Indian Ambassador to Kabul, assured the Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister of his country’s participation in the 9th Ministerial Conference of the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process.

Afghanistan saddened by loss of lives in Uttarakhand Glacier Burst

KABUL – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan offers its deepest sympathies to the people and governments of Republic of India for the precious lives lost in the Uttarakhand glacier burst, on February 7, 2021.

In a statement, Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar expressed his deepest sympathies to Minister of External Affairs of India Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the families of victims and all those affected by the disaster.

We are standing in solidarity with the people and government of India at this difficult time. We pray for the lost lives, safety and swift recovery of those missing.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Message Regarding India's First Shipment of COVID-19 Vaccine

KABUL - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan would like to express its sincere gratitude for the assistance and delivery of the first shipment of the COVID 19 vaccine (COVISHIELD) by Afghanistan's generous supporter and strategic partner, India.

The donation of five hundred thousand doses of vaccine to tackle the spread of Covid in Afghanistan in the current difficult circumstances is a strong sign of generosity and sincere cooperation of the Republic of India with the government and people of Afghanistan.

As a part of expanding cooperation between the two countries, the Covid relief assistance had been announced by India earlier on January 8 during a telephone call between Minister of External Affairs of India Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar.
